American Motors: 79 AMC Jeep CJ5 bleeding brakes, bleeding brakes, jeep cj5

Question
I replaced my brake lines and master cylinder. I bench bled the mc before I installed it. The problem is I cannot get all of the air out of the lines. The pedal will not hold pressure. I've bled each wheel several times. Do I need to hold open the proportioning valve to properly bleed the brakes? Do you have to use the special tool to do this?

Answer
There is a special service tool used to disable the metering valve portion of the combination valve during the bleeding process.
Go to this website, which is actually for a 1973 AMC. Go to the brake section and it describes the bleeding procedure. It is the same on your Jeep.
