Audio Systems: speaker problem, kenwood amp, rockford speaker

Question
I have a ten inch rockford speaker and a 1000watt kenwood amp. Recently my fuse blew under the hood, the 30amp AGu fuse. I replaced that fuse and the amp wouldn't work so i took the radio out and it was a wire loose so i fixed that and the amp works but now the speaker wont' work and it's just my sub all other speakers in my jeep work. I changed the speaker wire from the sub to the amp and it still doesn't work, any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Answer
If you have another, separate, but known good speaker then connect it to the sub just for testing to make sure the amp is really putting out power. (Be careful not to blow it out; start with volume at low level just for testing purposes). If the amp is working and you are sure the sub is connected properly, then it probably has an open voice coil.  If the amp is not working then you will need to track it down.

If the sub speaker is defective you may be able to get it repaired rather than replace it.  Let me know if this is the situation as you can often find a speaker repair place nearby who can repair the voice coil or the internal connection to it.

If you have a vom it would be easy to check it out. You can purchase a simple but very good vom for car use at walmart or home depot or under $10.  With it you can check voltage at the input of your sub amp and the dc resistance of the voice coil of the subwoofer.  Then, you will know for sure what is going on.

Let me know if you need more if you cannot get it up and running.
