Audio Systems: Yamaha RX-V3000 Right Channel Crackling Sound, crackling sound, high quality sound

Question
Hello,

Recently, I began to experience a high pitch, crackling sound coming from my Polk RM 7500 right channel while watching a dvd, War, at high volume level. The crackling sound will come and go, very annoying. Obviously, something is wrong. The crackling sound appears at higher levels usually when listening in DTS, or any other high quality sound track.

When playing at regular sound track you kind of don't notice the sound distortion but if you get your ear close to the right speaker, channel, you hear a distortion in the sound from both mid and tweeter in that channel. I have check for wire connection and also use the speaker in the right channel to the left and vise versa and noticed that the speaker in the right sounded good in the left channel. However, the speaker that I moved from the right channel to the left sounded crackling, distorted on the right. To me is not the speaker but??? What could the problem be?

As I was typing this, I was listening at regular sound level without the high distorted, crackling sound and all of the sudden from the right channel distortion started at an annoying level.

I want to Thank You in advance for your prompt cooperation

Answer
Many receivers run all audio through the surround processing chips even with surround off.  This problem sounds like a processing problem with the chips.  This will require investigation and tracing of the sugnal with an scope.  You should bring this unit to a shop as it is not likely to be diagnosed remotely.
