Audio Systems: Vienna speakers not working properly, resistance measurement, speaker post

Question
Hello, I'm wondering if you can help me out.  I have a pair of Vienna Haydn Grand speakers.  I believe they were overdriven. I was listening to a record and someone switched the amp to cd player, it got really loud now only the tweeters on the speakers work.  I opened them up and could not find any visual problems except for a blackened resistor on each speaker, (I think it's 150 ohms).  I have tried replacing the resistor with no luck as to getting the speakers to work.  Not sure where to go from here as none of the speakers are blown and there are no fuses or anything.  Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!!!

Answer
If you have an ohm meter, remove the wires from the actual speaker inside the cabinet (one wire will do) and measure across the two terminals.  The static resistance measurement shold be between 3 and 6 ohms.  If you read infinity, the speaker coils are blown and need to be replaced.  I have successfully re-coned speakers that have been blown, but there are few places that provide this service these days.  You may need to replace the entire speaker.  Post here your results.
