Audio Systems: capacitor, energy storage device, infinity subs

Question
Hi again.

This might be a stupid question but I was just wondering if you can tell me what a capacitor does because I have been given one for my ice system. I have got 2 12” infinity subs 1230 and an infinity amp RA7502 and I need to no if a stinger 1 farad would be good enough for this setup.

Thanks

Answer
First question; A capacitor is an energy storage device.  I consists, in simplistic terms, of two very large electrically conductive plates placed very near each other and an insulator in between them to keep them from touching.  This very long pair of plates is then rolled up and mounted inside the can.

Secondly, a "power capacitor" will always help a sub amplifier.  What does it do?  If it is mounted very near to the amp it will help keep the amps voltage up during long, heavy duty bass music signals and smooth out the current requirements from the battery.  It also keeps the voltage losses from the long wire between the battery and the amplifier to a minimum.

The overall result is the amplifier will run better and the sound will be more robust and more powerful at the very lowest of audio frequencies.
