Audio Systems: SUBS ----> AMPS, component speaker system, component choices

Question
are there any subs you know work well that are already wired to the required ohms for the cheaper amp....I mean are these polks worth the price....i really dont want to build a box because i fear having durability problems with it down the road....I really would like to buy the best deal on subs in which it will help my overall cost... what do you reccomend yourself for a complete system at a reasonable price....from headunit to amps, subs, and speakers....

yea thanks mark you answered that perfectly....last question, with all this said and done what are some suggestions you could make as far as bettering my system or equalling this system for a lower price...i feel i just threw some component choices at you and these might not be the best...do you feel i should change anything or consider anything at this price range to get a better bang for my buck? right now im looking at around 800 bucks and basically wondering if i could do any better around this price range  (sorry if that came out confusing...) any help would be appreciated.

-----Question-----
Hey Mark I really appreciate the quick answers....I have a few more questions for ya.. what do you know about this amp....POWER ACOUSTIK OV2-800 ...and is it worth buying for the low price? also, will it do a quality job with the 12" polk subs? Also do you think my factory speakers will hold up with these subs if i hold off on the polk speaker system for now and if I do not purchase the multi channel amp how drastic is the sound difference from the speakers?

-----Question-----
Hi Mark, im looking to put a decent audio system in my 2004 Dodge Stratus SXT, (2 Door Coupe) (6 speaker) now I am not very smart in the audio system category so forgive me if i sound stupid... I was wondering what sub you would prefer between the following...

Rockford Fosgate Punch PL1-210 (10 inch)(Dual 8-Ohm Impedance (can be wired together for a single 4-ohm load)

or

Polk db212-2 (12 Inch) (2-ohm mono impedance (1 set of heavy-duty binding posts)(frequency response: 27-200 Hz)
»  power handling: 750 watts RMS (1500 watts peak power)
   »  sensitivity: 103 dB
(i would love some other suggestions if these subs stink!)

Also I was wondering what amps and speakers (dodge---> 6x9 (rear) and 6 3/4 (front), I should be looking to hook these subs up to for best sound. (not sure what channels, etc...) If you could give a couple suggestions with some info that would be greatly appreciated!

(Im using the Pioneer DEH-P7700MP head unit) not sure if this is a problem....)

I really appreciate the help Mark, Thanks Alot!

most of the time (NOT ALWAYS BUT MOST OF THE TIME) 12s are going to play deeper and louder and more efficiently than 10s.  also the punch stage 1s are the bottom of the barrel out of fosgates stuff but the polk DBs are the middle of their line.
I'm a pretty big fan of polk as well so if you have the room for the bigger box i'd DEFIANTLY go with the polk

the amp for the subs really has to be mono since it's a 2 ohm speaker and mono's better for subs anyway.

what you get should be pretty much any mono amp that is rated for about 750 watts at 2 ohms.  other than that i's just brand preference and price.

I'd say the Power Acoustik A1800DB  is a great bang for the buck and a good match for the polk sub.

let me know what you think.

personally i LOVE runing my door speakers off an amp instead of the crumby amplifier that's built into the cd player.
if you want a matching set of amps this one looks the same as the 1800db:

its only 70 watts per channel but that should be plenty to compete with these 12s.

In fact I've used this exact setup for a friend of mine, (both of these 2 amps)  the subs were different but the amps looked great together and sounded good too.

as for the door speakers, try to concentrate on the fronts more than the rears.  you'll find that having the sound pushed up will sound more realistic and natural to your ears.  that being said,  if you have $200 to spend on speakers DONT buy $100 fronts and $100 rears.  you may just want to buy $200 fronts and leave the factory rears alone.  the amp will have separate gain knobs to balance the sound out so the rears are putting out the majority of the sound, so you'll barely even notice the rears being factory speakers unless there is a major problem with them or something like if they make scraping noises or are blown all together.  If you have money to burn then by all means get new rears but even so, I wouldnt dump big bucks into them cuz the fronts are more important.

I usually sugest the Polk DB 6500 component speakers,  they have FANTASTIC ratings and aren't too expensive.

good luck and again, please let me know how it goes!

Sure!  glad to be of help  that amp actually is a great amp for the price but it will not work with the polk subs.  The polk subs are 2 ohms and the ov2-800 only runs a 4 ohm mono load so it will overheat and distort.

you can get the A1800db on ebay for pretty cheap.
so your first step can definatly be to just add the subs and amp.  do the polk door speakers later,  I do recomend runing them with an amp though since they are component speakers,  they suck up more power and can handle more power for better, more dynamic sound.  so when you get the polk door speakers definatly do yourself a favor and get an amp to run them.

not so sure what you're asking me.  the polk subs are one package that you found.  the polk 6500s are a set of 6 pieces.  they have 2 woofers to go into your doors, they have 2 tweeters, and they have 2 crossovers.  it's a kit containing all that.  as I was saying before I would only get them for the front doors though.  you need 1 set for the fronts but if you feel like spending extra money you can get a set for the rear too but I dont think I would unless your rears are blown or you just want to have a little bit better sound.
did that answer your question?  If not let me know

There's an infinate nubmer of options out there so you can definatly do better.  the biggest thing you can do is build you own box if you know how and have the tools to do it.  these subs are only $65 each seen here:

http://www.cardomain.com/item/POLDB124

so instead of $300 for the subs in a box you can get the same subs for $130  and build a box probably for $30.  the other advantage of building the box yourself is that you'll get to wire it yourself so instead of being stuck with the 2 ohm mono config that this prefab one is for 300 you'll be able to wire it to 4 or 8 ohms depending on which subs you get etc.  this would alow you to get a cheaper amp like the OV2-1200 or something like that.
keep in mind in a good system you can easily spend $100 in wiring too so factor that into your $800 overall cost.
If you have a tablesaw and some woodworking experience I'd be glad to help you build a box.

Let me know.

Answer
I really think the polk db box deal is quite a bang for the buck, those subs get incredible ratings for their price and box seems to be built very well too.  I think you shouldn't turn it down for something lesser just becuase of the amp.  Power acoustik's new stuff just came out and this one is cheaper with about the same ratings and is made for a 2 ohm mono load, pretty much perfect for the polks:
