Audio Systems: Recording VOIP, nero wave editor, sound blaster card

Question

Hi Mark

Thank you for your letter.

I have a Creative Sound blaster card and when I click on the Creative volume control speaker icon down near the clock it comes up with the settings for that card. I think this would be different to what you see if you have a different card. I cannot see the steps you indicate.

The problem is if you place the mike to close to the speaker, you get feedback which causes an annoying whisle. Do you know of a way to minimize this? I looked at the sound card and noticed it had ports labeled C-sub, line in, rear and SPDIF out. Could any of those ports help me?

Your help is appreciated,
Regards Richard.

Hi Mark

What is the best way to record VOIP phone calls? I have Nero Wave Editor and have tried recording. However, the speaker is a fair way from the microphone and I cannot hear the other person when I play back the recording. Would I have to place the speaker close to the microphone or is there another way where the recording can be done perhaps internally through the sound card. If so, would Nero Wave Editor enable me to do this or would I need something else?

Your help is appreciated,
Regards Richard.

sorry it took me a while here...
If you are using VOIP on your PC you should be able to click on the little speaker down by the time, double click the speaker, go to options, properties, and recording, make sure all options are checked and click ok.
check the box on wave out or stereo mix and if you dont have that let me know.
This should input the sound card's output back into the pc so whatever is coming out the speakers will be captured to be recorded in whatever app you use.
Let me know your options if this doesnt match up with what you have.
Let me know how it goes!

Answer
Your options should be exactly as I said,  I have creative cards as well,  I have the live platinum 5.1 in one of my pcs and still the options are the same.  the volume control I'm talking about is the basic windows one,  maybe yours is in:
start, all programs, accessories, entertainment, volume control.
It should look fairly basic.
Try to go there and follow my instructions.
Then you can use your recording app to capture whatever is coming out of the speakers as wav files.
Those other jacks arent for this.
C-sub is your component subwoofer output
line in is for inputing sound from another source
rear is the surround sound output
SPDIF out is digital audio output.
Try what I wrote and let me know.
