Audio Systems: video on stereo, video circuitry, video circuit

Question
Why does a stereo have a video input and output?

Answer
Dear Rodger,

I assume that you're asking about a receiver. There are precious few 2-channel, audio-only receivers on the market, and even some of those have a video circuit. Why? Some folks like to listen to VHS tapes, DVDs, and so on in plain, old stereo instead of surround sound, so manufacturers include video circuitry in their products.

Kindest regards,

Kevin
