Audio Systems: Factory Radio with little to no sound, audio amp, factory radio

Question
1999 Toyota Sienna factory stereo with single disc cd player: I purchased the van new and its never gave any problems until now.  Our van was running with a CD playing and I closed the left sliding door and it sounded like the CD skipped however the sound never came back in the front speakers and rear left speaker and the right rear sounds very low.  Upon entering the van I smelt a electrical short.  I checked the fuse and it had not blown, the radio and cd player work but with little sound out of the one speaker.   Any Ideas as to what  happened or what I can do.

Answer
John,
The problem of the burning smell may be from the audio output amp in the stereo failing. It's possible that some of the speaker wire feeds may have shorted out when closing the sliding door? and this caused the audio amp to burn up. To check out this problem you will need to remove the stereo and inspect the amp for burn marks. You will also need to use a ohm meter after you have the stereo removed and measure all the speaker wires for shorts or grounding to the vehicles frame/body.
