Audio Systems: My cd player in my car has no sound!!!, fuse one, fuse block

Question
About a week ago my husband was putting in some speakers in the back of the car, and he told me to turn the volume up, well he somehow two wires touched that weren't suppose to touch!!!!  now the stereo has no sound. The everything else works , but you can't hear anything. My husband said that the in-put/out-put need to be replaced! Can you tell me what happened?  Thanks Miah L

Answer
Miah,

well i dont really understand by what he means but "in/out put" the unit has preouts that are used for amplifiers which if he installed subwoofers he would have used an amp.. now have you lost sound just to your subs/new speakers or is there no sound at all .. if you have no sound to your new/speakers check the amp very possible he could have blew the amp when he crossed the wires or the preout circuit in the head unit got toasted this is the only 2 things that really could go wrong to cause an amp'd system to fail like this.. now check the fuse on the amp and give the maker a call to walk through some basic troubleshooting for the amp and the headunit .. now if you have lost all sound .. go to your fuse block pull out each and every fuse one at a time and check for blows check ALL fuses not just the stereo related ones .. also * if have a factory stereo setup with a factory amp you might have some larger and more expensive problems * pull the head unit out triple check all of your wiring connections just as a precaution and check the fuse in the back of the head unit replace if its blown... now i have just touched on some basics if you want some more info or i missed something just let me know and provide some more info .. hope this helps you out

thanks
