Audio Systems: feasability of repairing aftermarket headunit, power checks, 12 volt

Question
I have an Aiwa headunit (cdcx927) that seems to be busted.  When wired into my car, it will not power up when the ignition is turned on.  I have taken the unit out, checked all the harness connections, checked the fuse, and tried to power the unit up using a benchtop power supply.  Everthing checks out, but it will not power up on the bench either.  My question is, should I even try to repair the unit, or should I cut my losses and get a new one.

Answer
Hello kevin,
The cause of the no power problem may be due to defective solder connections at the pins for the connector that are soldered to the main board. Several other causes are as follows, 1-defective processor. 2-faulty voltage regulator/s 3-defective connections in harness ect. Double check that 12volts are coming up to the connector by using a test light to put a load on the wiring. Check both 12 volt sources. The problem may only be a simple one to repair. I would try the power checks before attempting any inside the unit repairs.
