Audio Systems: AM Reception is weak, antenna wire, ohm meter

Question
-------------------------
Thanks for your response.  I'm clueless on how to check and see if the antenna grounds are tight, what would be the best way to approach this.  Thanks in advance....

Answer
Hello Jim,
If your stereo can receive FM stations OK, then the antenna lead is probably OK. A defective ground can allow noise into the AM reception, even engine noise. The problem is most likely with the AM module being weak and not a defective ground. You can check the ground by unplugging the antenna at the radio and use the ohm meter from chassis ground of the vehicle to the plug (outside portion)of the antenna wire.
