Audio Systems: blazer sound system, sony xplod, s10 blazer

Question
i am looking to purchase a system for my wifes 98 s10 blazer. i need for the reciever to have a cd player. as far as sound, i want to be able to crank it up but i want the sound to be clear and crisp. i need a system that i can expand. what would be a good system for this vehicle. cost wise, if it's expensive, i am willing to get the reciever first and add the rest depending on expense. i just need to know what to get and what brands you recommend on the different items(speakers, amp, reciever) the blazer has a din and a half in it right now. appreciate any and all help

Answer
Randy,

hi no problem first i will give you a site to check out for some really good deals etronics.com that is where i order most all of my electronics from .. and also i will start by recommending a brand i use sony xplod they have the best sound and performance at a great price but its all on you what brand you prefer and what fits your budget.. if you have a din and half unit in there you already have a dash install kit but i dont normally recommend a din and half a single din is more common and double din that will fit back to the factory dash spot are to expensive for the same produdt but that is personal taste on your part just make sure you use a wire harness adapter to keep all the wiring neat and pro .. ok head unit , Xplod CDX-MP40 is cd player  with MP3 capabilities with huge power for 139.00 that is a great value and they have a more attractive model for 239.00 that is also MP3 capable .. the head unit like i said is all on your taste just pay attention to the RMS watt ratings and the Peak/Max Watts and get speakers that fit the wattage range.. also pay attention to preouts make sure it atleast has one or more so you can add amps later on for BIG sound.. ok now lets get to speakers you will have 3 sets of speakers and a good high powered head unit should take care of the speakers and give some good sound but if its not enough you can always add an amp later, the top dash speakers are 4x6 and the door speakers are 6.25-6.5 i'm unsure of the back speakers but you can check at crutchfield *what fits my car* and it can tell you .. now for the top dash 2way or 3 way speakers will give you a nice sound range along with 3 or 4 ways in the rear should give you the sound you are looking for but if its to raspy or has to much distortion or if you want subs to do all your bass work you can add bass blockers to the top dash or even the door speakers.... if you want sub type bass i would recommend a small 10 inch inclosure or a bass tube for the back cargo space something that wont eat up all of your hauling space in the back a self amped bazooka bas tube would be perfect if you had the money .. the total estimate for the full redo i would estimate 150-250 for the head unit depending on what you want , 30-70 dollars per set of speakers and you will have 3 sets , and if you want extra bass with a sub and amp another 180-250 dollars for a bass tube with amp.. this can be shaved down if you get a good deal somewhere or like you said you can start with a good head unit and build up as you get the time and money which is the best way .. hope this helps you out if i missed something or you need something else feel free to let me know

thanks
