Audio Systems: Cosmetic Repair, mercury grand marquis, button toggles

Question
Hi Cody. I recently bought a newer car. It is a 2001 Toyota Avalon. The stereo is factory installed. On the toggle bars used to change radio stations the original black paint has been worn off. At night when the back light of the stereo system is on, it looks pretty bad. The light shines through the worn off paint. What can I do to repair this problem?
And yes, I have asked other questions about my Mercury Grand Marquis. The engine broke after asking the other questions and was replaced.

Thanks
John

Answer
John,

Hi i thought the name sounded familer, about the paint on the buttons , i'm confident they can be removed and painted.. you might try calling around some local small electronic shops that do repair and ask them if they can remove the buttons and toggles for refinishing .. or you could get some touch up paint that matches the button/toggles tone and cover up the spots that let the backlights come through that would be the easiest approach .. i'm rather suprised on that new of a car the paint was worn off someone must have loved radio ! =0) .. other than those two i wouldnt know what else to tell you .. if it happend to me i would go for the touch up paint or take the unit out and make a cardboard mask that only lets the toggles through i need to cover and lightly coat them with color toned spray paint and clear sealer .. but whichever one you choose should cure the problem .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks

Cody
