Audi Repair: Check Engine light, accessory shops, audi a6

Question
Hi, I have a 2001 Audi A6 that I have had for 5 years and I have never had any problems with it.  Within the past two weeks I noticed that the check engine light had cut on.  It stayed on for a day then cut off for a week then cut back on for a day and now it's back off and hasn't cut back on as of yet.  Should I be worried?  I do a lot of highway driving because I commute to work and don't want it to break down on me or anything.  Do you think this is something serious?  I'm debating on whether or not I should trade it in for a new or newer Audi if it's going to start to become an expense.  Thank you in advance:)

Answer
Hi,  How many miles do you have on the car?  It could be if you're close to 100k that you are coming up for O2 sesnor replacement.  The best thing to do is to get the computer codes read out (most accessory shops will do this for you), and decide what the repair action is from there.  let me know what you find,  Jan
