Audi Repair: check engine light audi , code for tran.allroad, audi code, audi canada

Question
QUESTION: Hi

Two days a go after traveling on highway my check eng. light went on. (audi allroad 2001)...took it to audi dealerchip to have that checked... after scane they never gave me any code but said that there is something with transmission and it will cost me $3000 to fix it and that I should make appoitment within 3 weeks, when I asked that if it is save to drive they said yes. That made me all confused...damage for $3000 but it is save to drive with that light on ontill fixed...car drives fine, can not feel any problems in shifting or any other trany related problems except that check eng. light. Car has 150 000 km on it, maybe trany oil and filter change would solve this problem?

waiting for answer...thank you very much

ANSWER: I would definitely go for a second opinion on this diagnosis.  Pretty unlikely that an oil and filter will fix it.  What was the explanation for the expensive repair?  Let me know,  Jan

QUESTION: Hi Jan

Thank you for your answer...here is the follow up...went back to dealership to get the trouble code...17125  P0741  035...torque converter lock-up clutch, performance or stuck off....sporadic.
I read a lot about this on internet, went on audi forums and few peaple solve this problem by changing trany oil and filter or meny said that usualy this problem is caused by low oil level in trany, soon as it was filled up the light desapeared.
Anyhow I will wait for your answer...by the way, it cost $ 3000 to fix this ? audi canada estimate.

than you very much Jan

Answer
If the lock-up clutch is sticky, then perhaps a flush and new oil/filter does the trick.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.  The reason for the expense is that it is a labor-instensive job, transmission removal etc.  Hope you don't have to do it.
