Audi Repair: Audi Allroad 1995 question, audi a4 allroad, car doors

Question
There is a small red light on the drivers door which lights on my audi a4 saloon when the the button is pushed on the drivers door to centrally lock the car doors when inside the car. The same light on the drivers door in our audi a4 allroad does not light when the button is pushed on the drivers door to centrally lock the doors. The garage looking at the problem have come back and said that this light is not supposed to light on the allroad and is not wired up to work. Is this correct?

Answer
The red light works on my 01 S4, but it is always on, not just when I press it, I am not sure on the Allroad.  However it should be easy to check, since the interior light circuit has the same color wires.  Are the lights working on your window controls?  If you get the switches out, check for positive voltage on any terminal of the power locking switch when the lights in the power window controls are on.  Alos other than brown (ground) wires, look for wires with the same color codes as the window ones.  If the wire with the same color code has 12V on the window switch and no voltage on the central locking switch, look for a broken wire.  This will be important to find as you don't want a positive wire loose in your door.  Let me know,  Jan
