Answer
Hello,

You are fighting yourself and relying on codes on this antiquated system. In 1994 GM went to the OBD II system in which codes could be more trusted and exacting. On the 1990 you are dealing with the OBD I system and all codes are just a general indication of what might be wrong.
Trying to diagnose system problems without a factory service manual can be very costly and frustrating. See if you can purchases a 1990 Cadillac service manual on Craigs or Ebay. You will find diagnostic flow carts with the steps you must follow to eliminate potential problems one by one without replacing perfectly good components on a guess.

As for the grinding in the transmission, there is no general diagnoses for this symptom. I bet the pan was dropped and the filter changed because of this problem that did not get repaired by changing the filter.

The grinding could be caused from a major transmission problem in which possibly the clutches are coming apart, the gears. Don't know, but grinding is indicative of a transmission problem of some kind indicating a future failure.

Good luck.
