Cadillac Repair: fuel filler tube replacement, rubber hoses, hose clamps

Question
how do you replace a fuel filler tube in a 1995 caddy concourse deville

Answer
Hi Bob,

To replace the filler pipe/tube remove the gas cap and then the three 7mm bolts just below the cap. Raise up and safely support the car in the rear so you can slide underneith. From under the vehicle there should be a 10mm bolt that holds the tube assembly to the body. Finally remove the 2 hose clamps that hold the tube assembly to the rubber hoses or if it is easier to do remove the clamps at the tank and then slide the hoses off. Actually you might need to break the seal by twisting them or get a 90 degree pointed awl in between the hose and the tank outlets. Once they are loose take a prybar and remove the hoses. Then the whole assembly should be able to be removed from the car.

It would be best to run the tank to less than 3 gallons otherwise once the hoses are removed gas will come out. Also I'm sure you realize that removeing gas with a rubber hose while you such on the hose to create a siphon is not a good idea because if you swallow the gas it can make you very sick or kill you. So If you need to siphon the gas out K-Mart or the hardware stores that sell kerosine have a basic pump with a 1/4" tube aprox. 3' long that would be ideal to use.

     Hope that helps. Bill
