1997 caddy seville adding refridgerant to the system .i have a message saying low refridgerant,but when i try to add the refridgerant the compressor will not engage. is there a way to get the compressor to engage.

Answer
Since the low refrigerant light came on, this usually means that you have a leak in the system and you are losing freon and air is getting into the system..


what you need to do is:

1. drain out all the remaining freon and install a set of A/C gages.

2. Evacuate all the air from the system via a vacuum pump.

3. Add one can of freon and check for leaks with an electronic leak detector and fix the leak.

4. Add the recommended amount of freon to the system.


And your system will be back in full operation.
