I have an 89 Eldorado that overheats when I shut it off.  Neither of the fans is working unless I have the A/C on.  I have replaced the coolant temp sensor.  Would that be the fan control module?  I can only locate one relay and fuse for it as well in the black box.  Is there a way to test the module, or with what I have described is it definately the module?

Thanks
Steffen

check your computers for codes via:

1. Ignition ON, Engine OFF.

2. Push and hold for 2 seconds the OFF and WARMER buttons on the climate control panel and then release.

3. Write down all the letters and numbers of the codes that begin to display until it stops displaying at .7.0

4. Let me know what the letters and numbers are EXACTLY as they display.

5. Turn ignition OFF.

Ok sorry about the wait.  Codes were as follows.  EO 15, EO 52,  B123, B552.  If I unplug the coolant temp sensor the fans run properly except when the key is off.  The only code it will throw then is EO 15 Current.  I have tried 2 different temp sensors as well.
Thanks,
Steffen

Clear all the codes from the computer and start the car for 5 minutes and then reaccess the codes and see which ones appear.
B 552 is the only one.

Answer
OK, Now we need to clear the B552 code and see if it reappears.

1. Ignition ON, Engine OFF.

2. Push and hold for 2 seconds the OFF and WARMER buttons on the climate control panel and then release.

3. As soon as you see the codes starting to appear push and hold for 2 seconds the OFF and LO buttons  and you will see F .0.0 and then release the buttons.

4. wait 10 seconds and re-enter the diagnostic sequence as I told you before and let me know if any E or F codes appear before you see the .7.0.

5. if you do write them down and let me know.

6. turn ignition OFF.

7. wait 10 seconds and restart car and see if the cooling fans come on when the engine temp gets near 220 degrees.

8. If they do not. Re-enter into diagnostics and look for codes.

I realize this is going to take some time. it is just that i do not want to overwhelm you with all the diagnostic command features so we can diagnose this problem.

BTW: the B552 means that battery power was interrupted going to the BCM computer. we need to make sure that this code and any other do not reappear.

Your probable fault is:

faulty faulty FAN CONTROL MODULE. But we want to be sure before you spend $200.00 and still have the same problem.

This is why we need to do ALL the diagnostics.

4. Let me know what the letters and numbers are EXACTLY as they display.

5. Turn ignition OFF.
