Cadillac Repair: power steering pump, power steering pump, power steering pump pulley

Question
The pulley on the power steering pump pulley is cracked .
Is it replaceable and how, if so?  1994 Cadillac deville 4.9 litre
Also the serpentine belt needs replacing.  How do you loosen it and then replace it and adjust the tension?  Thanks Terry

Answer
Hi Terry, The pulley is removed by placing a special puller in the groove of the pulley end and then tightening the bolt while holding the body. To install there is also a special installing tool. Both can usually be gotten as loaner tools free from Auto Zone or other parts stores might have that program too if you don't want to buy them. Sometimes you can remove and replace the pulley on the engine if you have enough room other times the pump must be removed...To remove the serpentine belt there is a spring loaded tensioner on the top of the engine next to the p/s pump. Place a 1/2" breaker bar in the square and pull back and the belt can then be removed. There is no adjustment so if the tensioner feels like it is weak or doesn't move freely then replace it. If you don't have a breaker bar you can use a ratchet but Cadillac doesn't recommend it because they have had problems with people breaking the square on the tensioner. Personally I have done it several times and haven't broken one yet. Hope that helps. Bill
