Chevrolet Repair: 1997 silverado stalling, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have a 1997 chevy silverado that keeps stalling out on me. Once I start it the truck will idle low and studder a little bit and than die. It doesn't do this every single time though, sometimes it stalls when I'm at a stop light and it's even stalled on me when I went to turn and it almost caused an accident. The MAF sensor has been recently replaced. The electrical sensor right next to the MAF sensor, what is that called? Whenever I take it off the truck idles up and once I put it back on the truck idles low again and than wants to stall so do you think that could be the problem?

Answer
HI DANIELLE, THE ONLY SENSOR THAT I CAN THINK OF NEXT TO THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR IN THE AIR DUCT IS A AIR TEMP SENSOR. [ATP] THIS SHOULD NOT CAUSE A HIGH IDLE WHEN REMOVED.IS THIS SENSOR IN THE AIR DUCT ? IS THIS A BIG BLOCK OR SMALL BLOCK,V-8 OR V-6 DOES THE CK ENG LIGHT EVER COME ON OR FLASH. HAVE YOU EVER HAD THIS CHECKED FOR CODES AND IF SO WHAT WERE THEY OR ARE THEY ??? A VERY COOMON PROBLEM ON THESE TRUCKS ARE THE BACK SIDE OF THE THROTTLE PLATE FILLS UP WITH CARBON AND CAUSES WHAT YOU SAY YOUR ENG DOES..TURN THE ENG OFF AND OPEN THE THROTTLE PLATE ALL THE WAY AND SEE IF THIS PLATE IS DIRTY. IF SO,GET SOME CARBURETOR CLEANER THAT IS OXYGEN SENSOR SAFE AND CLEAN THIS PLATE OFF REAL GOOD WITH YOUR FINGER AND TOOTH BRUSH..[NOTHING HARSH].. THIS BUILD UP CARBON INTERRUPS THE AIR FLOW OVER THE PLATE CAUSING STALLING ISSUES AND SURGING.  LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT AND ALSO IF ANY CODES ARE PRESENT...HOPE THIS HELPS YOU,,,,TOM..
