Motorcycle Repair: yamaha bike, yamaha yzf600 thundercat, 2 quarts

Question
Hey there Wayne,
I just bought a 1996 Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat. The oil hasn't been changed in the bike for two years. I need to do it asap. I just don't know how, :D Do you have any idea how I could get it done??
Thanks a bunch- Alicia

Answer
Alicia,

Most bikes are similar when it comes to an oil
change. Warm the bike up a bit so the old
oil will flow out. Be careful because engine
parts will be hot.

You might have to remove lower fairing cowls.
Remove the drain plug on the bottom of the engine,
usually a 14 or 17 mm socket needed.

Drain the oil, and then remove the oil filter,
on the front of most engines. Turns left to spin off.
Coat the new filter gasket or o-ring with oil
before reinstalling it.

Put your drain plug back in with a new gasket, tight but not
so tight that the aluminum threads get stripped.

Put 2 quarts of 10w40, motorcycle oil in.
Run the bike a minute, check the oil level
and add as needed to make it full.
If you have a site glass, level is between
the lines. If you have a dipstick, slap him, no,
add oil to the top line.
