Chevrolet Repair: car repair, oldsmobile silhouette, dodge van

my 1995 oldsmobile silhouette van shuts off sometimes when I brake or when I stop and put it in park. It starts right up again but I do a paper route and this gets annoying. What could the problem be?

could be the EGR or the Idle Control Motor (IAC).  Could also be other things too.  But this is where I would start.  To test EGR, pull the vacuum hose to it off and plug it with a golf tee.  The check engine light will come on, because this is an emissions thing.  You may see a difference in the idle.  I do this every winter with my Dodge van.  If that doesnt work, could be IAC.  

could also be fuel filter, air cleaner, and other tune up related things.
