Chevrolet Repair: Streeing wheel clonk nose when put in gear., chevy montecarlo, montecarlo ss

Question
I have a 2001 Chevy montecarlo SS and when i put it in drive i feel a clonk noise. I took it to the dealer and they told me the streeing colum had to be lubed. Have you ever heard of that? They did do it and it was fine for about i year now it's doing it again. Any ideal what they lubed?

Answer
Hey,

There is an update steering shaft extension with ujoint that is available but the TSB gives lube with the new shaft and that works the best.  If you want it to go away forever just replace that shaft.  Its knocking because of the play in the splines.  When you put this special lube in there it takes up the play. Its like wheel bearing grease and its only temporary (6 months)
