Chevrolet Repair: 1996 Chevy S10, 4.3 Liter, v-6, Wont start, fuel pressure gauge, chevy s10

Question
I went to start the pickup this Saturday and it would not start.  It cranks over but does not start up. I opened the fuel cap to try some of the answers already given on your web site, nothing.  I have spark at the coil and pressure in the fuel lines.  I just pulled up and parked in the driveway, the vehicle was running fine the next time I went to start it, it just cranked over and wouldn't start.  Do you have any answers on where to start now?

Answer
Weak fuel pumps or leaking fuel pump pulsators has been the most common cause of your complaint. You'll need to install a fuel pressure gauge to determine if it's getting the proper fuel pressure. With the key turned on, engine off, the pump will run for 2 seconds. Fuel pressure should be at least 60psi while the pump is running. It will drop slightly after pump stops and should hold there. If after a couple cycles of the key you fail to get that psi or the pressure bleeds right down, most likely the pump or pulsator is defective. Both should be replaced.
