Chevrolet Repair: over heating 96 cavalier, small block chevy, question pool

I cant find the thermastat in my 96 cavalier      its not in the housing like a small block chevy     Is it hidden somewhere else or is it not required in this model?  
2.2 liter that is overheating............

I found this in the question pool.  I will answer it but I am not the orginal person you asked.  

Do you have an anti-freeze addition area and cap in an area of the motor that is different than at the radiator?  Some GM did this.  The thermostat is found under that cap.  You remove the cap, grab the bracket that is there and twist and pull up.  That is the thermostat.
