Chevrolet Repair: 2001 Chevy 3500 van w/5.7L V8, smog place, chevy 3500

My van failed the visual inspection portion of the Ca. smog check, but passed the Functional and Emissions portions.  The claim at the smog place is the the "Pump Air Injection" is missing.  A friend says that many newer vehicles don't have a smog pump.  Is there a "Pump Air Injection" on this engine, or  is someone trying to rip me off for a repair I don't need?

i do not kno the ca. emmisions standards since i am from the midwest.  But you can easily find out if your vehicle was optioned with or without the pump, which i do believe is standard in ca.  Just call your local chevy dealer and ask parts if your vehicle has one or not...make sure u have ur VIN ready because they will need this to positively kno if urs should have it or not.....good luck
