Chevrolet Repair: 98 Z71 not starting, crankshaft position sensor, coil pack

Question
I just replaced the engine on my truck.  Everything is hooked up correctly and the distributor has been installed correctly.  Its cranking and sounds like it wants to start, but it isn't.  Its getting fuel, so I'm thinking it has to be an ignition problem.  Is there a common part to fail on this truck?  Ignition coil, ICM, coil pack?  Or maybe it something that I'm not checking?  I plugged my scanner in and there are no codes, (I suspected maybe the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft would cause a code if they were at fault).  Do you recommend any specific order in which I should check the parts?  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Answer
Hi Kevin.... if it sounds like it wants to go. check the timing. dist has to be set at top dead centre, computer does the advance. you could be a tooth out on the dist. make sure rotor is lined up with number 1 on the cap.  firing order is 18436572 clockwise. if you have spark and fuel, that is where i would start. hope this helps
