Chevrolet Repair: 2003 Chevy Malibu Battery Problem, chevy malibu, trickle charger

Question
I own a '03 Malibu. Last winter I had problems turning over my car.  Thinking it was my battery I replaced it because it was never replaced. However the new battery didn't do the trick. I then took a different approach and installed a new starter thinking my remote start had something to do with the problem. Again no luck. This problem lasted randomly (it would die for a week and be fine for a couple weeks) all winter long. During the summer I didn't have a problem with it dying.  Just the other day my car wouldn't turn over like the battery was dead again. I am able to jump start my car right away.  When i hook the car battery up to a trickle charger it shows that it has a low charge. Is there something i can do to fix this problem? Why does it only happen on random days?

Answer
First test the battery. Most auto parts stores like Autozone will test it for free.

Next test the charging system.

If both of the above are ok and you state the engine will crank and start when jumped, then your vehicle most likely has an excessive parasitic drain. Something may be staying on causing the battery to drain. It's best to have it tested professionally. You can check to see if any lamps are staying on...trunk, glove box, visors, etc. Also cig lighters for being stuck in.
