Chevrolet Repair: Fuel problems, fuel pressure gauge, fuel pumps

Question
I have a 1995 silverado the motor turns over but won't crank.
I know it could be the fuel pump or filter. What else could be causing the problem? How can I check the fuel pump.

Answer
I believe you mean the engine will crank but will not start, correct?
If so it could be fuel related or no spark. Fuel pumps have been a problem.
You need a fuel pressure gauge and the service port is located under the hood near the injector unit.

Try this: turn the ignition to run for 10 seconds and then to off. Try this a couple times and then on the third try turn to run and after 2 seconds try cranking the engine just for a second or two. This builds up the fuel pressure gradually, sometimes enough to start the engine. Don't crank it for more than 2 seconds.
After cranking and if it don't start repeat the process. I got many vehicles with weak fuel pumps to start like this enough to get it into the shop.

Hope this helps,
Robert
