Chevrolet Repair: 1995 Astro no power, fuel pressure gauge, fuel pumps

Question
I have 1995 Astro 4.3 Vortex 151,000 miles
we have had it sence 27,500 miles and no real problems except fuel pumps, we have put 4 fuel pumps on this van, one a year for last 4 years
and a roving not working electric problem
things will work for a while then stop then start
working(noone can figure out).

It started not wanting to take gas
it starts fine, idles fine, but if you try to step
down on the gas hard or even simi hard it starts cutting out, and will not speed up, and no black smoke like from flooding. You can drive it as long as you dont step hard on the gas, but it doesnt want to put up hill very well, slight inclines will cause it to slow drasticly, but if you give it gas slowly on flat ground it will run 70mph.
Had it put on a scan and had fuel presseure tested
they say they dont know whats wrong "Just drive it till it quits then we'll figure it out!"
Or "lets start replaceing things till we get it fixed".

Scan shows
33 EGRerror
34 Mapsenor circuit
44 Lean Exhaust

Fuel Pressure reads 53psi at key on
and holds with key off

We dont have a lot of $$$ to just start replacing till they figure it out, and this is our only mode of getting around except an old cycle. Family of 5
plus 2 at the moment.

Answer
Hi JD, Did they run the van with the fuel pressure gauge on and check the pressure when the problem is happening? If not I would say it is a plugged fuel filter. If you haven't replace it for this problem do it, it's cheap!! I don't know how far you run your fuel tank down before filling but I wouldn't go past 1/4. The fuel is what cools the fuel pump and when the tank is near empty the pump will run hot, shorting the life of the pump. The only other thing that could be the problem is the Cat-con. If this is getting plugged up it can do the same. I would go with the cheap fuel filter first.

Let me know what happens
