Chevrolet Repair: 1992 Chevy S10 Pickup Ignition, chevy s10 pickup, s10 pickup

Question
I am having problems removing the key from the ignition switch on the steering column when trying to turn off the ignition. In fact, I can't get t he key to turn at all and the truck won't shut off unless I pop the clutch. I have lubed the lock and linkage, but it still won't come out. This has happened several times, but have been able to get the key out after trying for several minutes.  During the previous episodes, I noticed that the radio would not work and that the emergency brake light doesn't go out fully when the brake is released.  Should I have the whole ignition replaced or is there something I can do myself to alleviate this problem? Do you think  the ignition is causing the malfunctioning of the radio and brake light?
Thanks so much for your time!

Answer
Hi Paul,
The ignition switch itself is not in the top of the steering column where the key tumbler is, but is rather down on the steering column, above the brake pedal. it is operated by a rod, and is adjustable.
If you have a tilt column, there is also a little pewter lever in the tilt joint that can cause some trouble.
There is a steering column expert on this site that might be more help.
And it may be that you need a tumbler/lock assembly.
