Chevrolet Repair: Transmission woes, forward gears, chevrolet celebrity

I have a 1990 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport SW with a 3.1L V-6 4-speed automatic, 134K miles. It was operating normally today and I went to back up (had already done so several times today) and ...nothing. I put the shift selector in reverse and it was as if it were in neutral. I checked the fluid level and it was in the operating range. Prior to losing reverse, there was no unusual sounds, the fluid appears normal and it goes through all forward gears normally. I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. What do you think? Thanks

Hi Mike,
Not my area, but it sounds like a valve sticking.
I would probably try shifting it a little on the rough side, hoping to jar it loose. But doesn't sound like an overhaul just yet.
See if there isn't a transmission specialist on this site, or go to the site I will give a link for, and search there.
