Chevrolet Repair: 97 Chevrolet Lumina, chevrolet lumina, transmission shop

Question
I'm looking to buy a lumina from someone who says the O/D no longer works. They said there may be future work needed on the transmission. They just had the engine rebuilt and the total miles on the car is 80000. It's an automatic. Will getting this car cost me alot of money in repairs in the near future? He's only asking for 1200 for the car right now.

Answer
Gee, Naomi, that would be impossible to say.
If the engine was professionally done, then the price might be good, even if a new transmission is needed down the road.

It is also possible that something was damaged, like a wire pinched during the engine removal, that could have caused the OD to quit, or had it quit before?

Checking the condition of the tranny fluid would be a good idea, unless he has already changed it to try to correct the problem.

Maybe have a transmission shop give you an estimate before you buy the car.
