Chevrolet Repair: Airbags, car repair manual, local shop

The "airbag" light on the dash remains on at all times does this actually mean that my airbags are not working or could it be something else electrical and the bags actually are working? What needs to be done to check this out?

sound to me like they are functioning properly or could be a short in the wiring.. check your owners manual or get a car repair manual or talk to a local shop you trust and get the skinny on that air bag light.. as far as i know the light means there on and ready for use...
