Chevrolet Repair: Trans shifting hard, chevy cavalier, cavalier rs

Question
Specs:
1987 Chevy Cavalier RS (StationWagon)

I would assume my engine is idling too high, but I can't be sure because the criteria for my hypothisis are sometimes different.

Problem:
After Cold-Starts and Sometimes during warm-starts or after running, when I shift into reverse, the car bangs into gear. It doesn't do this when I shift it into drive however.

Any ideas?

I believe the eingine tilts a bit, i guess to change the engine drive gear to an opposite turning gear for reverse function?

It's been like this since I got it(about a year and a few months), and I don't want to spend any money on a new tranny just yet... assuming one exists.

Also, I want to rewire most inside car functions into a control board(Toggle Switches and Pressure buttons), fuel pump, ignition, headlights, parking lights, etc... I've been unable to find a manual for my car that tells me what wire under the dashboard is which.

Would you be able to tell me? or maybe you can locate a manual that might prove usefull? I've searched for days and i begining to think it dont exist or im not looking in the right place.

Thanks a bunch in advance mate.

Answer
Hi Jim, The wiring will be a problem unless you get a GM repair manual. As for the banging into rev I would check your engine and trans mounts to be sure that one isn't collasped. Check the mount in the passenger side rear for the engine, this mount goes bad often.
