Chrysler Repair: 2006 T & C Transmission Whine, odometer mileage, chrysler minivan

Question
For the last few weeks my 2006 Chrysler minivan (3.8) has had a whine when started cold.  After perhaps 15 minutes of running the whine disappears.  Is this a sign of serious trouble?  The fluid level is in normal range.  What do you recommend?

Answer
Hi Lee,
Fortunately these units have a self-diagnostic capability by storing coded numbers called fault codes in the memory of their controllers. Get a free code readout at a nationwide autoparts store, such as Autozone, or at an independent shop for around $40. Then let me know what fault codes were revealed, if any and we'll go from there. It may be the case that if you turn the key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" within 5 seconds elapsed time, that the odometer mileage reading will disappear and fault codes (4-digit numbers) will appear with a letter in front of each number. I am not sure that is available on your '06 but give it a try. In any case that is the way to go to start to understand the noise.
