Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Voyager 03 - Electric mirror flipping out, mirror section, electric mirror

Question
Hi
Some idiot yanked the electric mirror back on itself whilst the they were in the closed position.
Now when I use flick them into an open position it doesn't stop at the 90 degrees you'd expect, it continues and flips back on itself so much so that the glass is pointing away from the car.  When I manually move the mirror back into position there is no click I'd expect and it doesn't lock into place.
Is this something I can fix myself?  What is needed to get this working again?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Nic,
The focus of the mirror section has to do with the electronics rather than the mechanical aspects. No interior mechanical aspects are shown. If the motor still functions then it may be repairable if you open it up, otherwise a failed motor apparently prompts a replacement. Because the other side wasn't damaged you have something that works to compare with. The mirrors are easy to remove from the outside: simply pry gently with a soft stick on the upper trim cover (triangular piece that is above the moving arm and has a u-shaped extension that goes around the arm mount, exterior) and that gives you access to the bolts which when removed will release the mirror from the pillar. Disconnect the wiring plug.
Then you can take it to the work bench and open it up for inspection and see what is dislodged/compare to other side mirror.
You should be able to find a replacement mirror on the internet if needed. In my experience you can get it less expensively than from a dealer and there may even be an 'after-market' model available. Both the '02 and '04 manuals appear identical in the text I summarized.
