Chrysler Repair: 05 Chrysler T&C head/park light gremlins, resistance values, headlamp switch

Question
Hello, my 2005 T&C's parking lights turn on and off when it it off and parked.  It is also difficult to get the headlights to turn on sometimes.  We have to work the switch on and off serveral times before the headlights come on.  Parking lights come on right away.  This doesn't always happen and our mechanic could not make it happen.  any DIY advise or even hints to our mechanic is helpful.
Thank you for your time!

Answer
Hi David,
The front lighting choices are modulated by the body control module by means of it 'seeing' a series of resistors in the headlamp switch which produce a different voltage signal for each of the settings of the switch, including the 'off' position. The purpose of this is to cut down on the number of individual wires and accomplish the task with only 2 wires total. So my thought is that there is some internal switching contact resistance which is producing a voltage level which is off-value from what it should be. The first thing to try would be to take a spray can of electronic contact cleaner and with a straw applicator spray the inside of the headlamp switch through any cracks or holes in the switch body. Then 'exercise' the switch to clean off the contacts. That may well normalize the resistance values/voltages for each of the settings and thus eliminate the problem. What is now happening is that the body module confuses 'off' with 'park' voltage, and doesn't know what to make of the 'headlight on' voltage.
