Chrysler Repair: oxygen senor bank 1 upstream, dodge grand caravan, gas millage

Question
QUESTION: About a week ago i ran thru some water my engine light came on it error code PO132 changed sensor it was decoded light came back on called bosch thinking i had a defecdted sensor they said it  get a 15122 part num. put it light still came back that the van was surging up an down that night it was put on it is running fine gas millage is good but still reading that code it is a 2005 dodge grand caravan sxt.

ANSWER: Hi Sondra,
Is the check engine light still coming on?
Is the engine running well?
If the light is not coming on, and the engine is running well, then the code may just be 'stale' and it will disappear after sufficient miles are driven or trips. The codes can not be erased without using a diagnostic box, I believe.
If you think something is still wrong, tell me why, and is it still an 0132?
I couldn't quite tell what exactly is the current situation.

QUESTION: Good evening!  sorry to bother you again, but i put a bosch O2 bank1 upstream aftermarket sensor on it, I was told by  a mechanic that if you put an aftermarket sensor on one, that the light may keep coming on and off and that it may need an actual DODGE sensor put on for the engine light to go off, is this true? the mechanic put a bosch on a honda, done the same thing then put a honda sensor on and it cleared up.

Answer
Hi Sondra,
It may be that the Bosch is not equivalent to the Dodge part so the mechanic could be right. If a shop put the Bosch sensor on then they should stand behind their work and replace the sensor with a Dodge part which will satisfy the engine computer so as not cause the light to come on again. They should do that at no cost because the repair was not effective at solving your problem.
If you bought the Bosch and put it on yourself then I would take it off, return it to whoever sold it to you, and tell them that it is not a proper part for your engine and get your money back. Then go to a dealer and get a Dodge sensor.
I was not aware that this could happen but if your mechanic has had that experience then I would take his word for it.
If the Dodge part doesn't work then you would question whether one of the 4 wires that goes to the sensor plug is defective. I can tell you the wire assignments but you need to tell me which engine size (L) you have. Then if you have an ohmmeter or continuity tester you can check out the wires.
