Chrysler Repair: no spark: 4 cyl. 2.5L, voltage measurements, computer memory

Question
Hi Roland, question I have is this. I have a 1989 Chrysler La Baron 2.5 L non turbo. went to crank it and had no fire to it. Have replaced the coil, the pick up, the computer, rotor button, checked rotor cap for cracks and moister. replaced plugs and wires and still am not getting fire from the coil or the distributor. could you tell me what other items I may check to find why it is not firing. I do have the distributor turning as it should. and I know the fuel pump is working as it should as if I am not careful I can flood it. I am at a stand still as I haven't had to do this before. Thanks Horace

Answer
Hi Horace,
All the parts that you replaced would be the likely suspects. But let us see if you can get any fault codes from the computer memory. Turn the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure you have an accurate set of flash counts. Then tell me what the counts are in the order that they appeared and we'll go from there. Do you have 12V on the - post of the spark coil while you are cranking the starter?
