Chrysler Repair: 95 lebaron: no power to top/windows/turns/a.c., amp fuse, jumper wire

Question
QUESTION: my daughter has a 95 lebaron everything was fine. a couple days ago she went out to find the power windows, turnsignals, convertible top and a/c would not work. we checked the fuses under the dash and they seemed ok. do you have any ideas whatit could be

ANSWER: Hi Tom,
There is a 50 amp (red) fuse in the power distribution center under the hood on the left side behind the battery. That fuse powers a section of the ignition switch which when in the 'run' position in fact powers the circuits that are now non-functional. So check out that fuse. I believe it is the only one of that size. It is in the front row, about the middle of the box.

QUESTION: we checked the fuse and it looks to be ok. i tried a jumper wire across the contacts and still no power. i know this is hard to diagnose without having the car but is there any other possibility you can think of

Answer
Hi Tom,
When the ignition is in the run position, the current from the fuse is supposed to go through the ignition switch and then to fuses 5,6,7 under the dash. So if those fuses aren't showing 12V under that condition, the ignition switch section that completes the connection is faulty. You could try spraying the inside of the switch with circuit board cleaner to try and improve the internal contacts of the switch. The specific connection inside the switch is to cause pin 5 to connect to pin 4 of the switch (i.e. black/pink carries 12V from the 50 amp fuse, and black/ orange carries the current to the other fuses that apparently don't have power on them). You have to remove the steering column covers to get to the switch (remove [unscrew] tilt lever, then screws on the underside).
