Chrysler Repair: Main Engine Harness, chrysler town and country, engine harness

Question
QUESTION: I took my van a 3.8 Chrysler Town and Country LXi to the dealership and had the transmission flashed and they changed IOD fuse and it still will not go into overdrive and they say that the Main Engine Harness needs replaced because one of the wires that next to the manifold has been sliced and replaced.
Where can I find one and do you really think that is the problem.  On my receipt it says when they hooked it up to a computer it read code P0066, and BUS message missing, the replaced the fuse and said I need a wiring harness.  Your opinion please you have always been right up to this when I have emailed you. If I do need one where can I get one and how much are they if you know.
Thank you so much for your help
Pam

ANSWER: Hi Pam,
I don't find the fault code 0066 in my '02 manual so I can't be certain if that is an accurate number on the receipt. Inquire again and ask them for the "name" of the code associated with that number. Then tell me that and the year of the vehicle as well.
The engine harness is no doubt very expensive, but ask at the parts counter of the dealership. My thought is if they know which wire has been "sliced and replaced" then that should be working properly. If the replacement was faulty and the specific wire has been identified then I see no reason why a new wire couldn't be re-spliced between the ends of the faulty wire at the plugs on either end of the wire in order to re-create the connection, without having to replace the entire harness. That would be a fairly simple task and avoid the cost of a new harness.
I believe a good electronics repair shop should be able to resolve the problem without replacing the entire harenss. So try to get the specifics on the fault code number(s) and exactly the location and status of the previously damaged wire. Then pass that along to a technician at a reliable independent auto electronics shop.

QUESTION: The van is a 1996 and the wire that was spliced before and replaced was resting on the manifold and it blew the MAP sensor.  So when we replaced the wire and the MAP sensor it worked fine.  I can have him replace that same wire if you think that will work.  The code P0066 - air insisted injector control circuit low

Answer
Hi Pam,
I see no reason to not replace the wire again, and protect it from the manifold this time. The '96 model year still used the 2-digit fault code system, but even reading this as a code 66 doesn't jive with the numbers at that time, not is the 'air insisted injector control circuit" close in name to any codes of that year. So I can't be sure what is going on with that. Do they point to that as related to the wire issue, or to some other repair that they are recommending? If so the latter, I would confront the question of the mis-identified code.
