Chrysler Repair: Evaporator core, chrysler town and country, hvac air

Question
QUESTION: I was wondering if its possible to replace an evaporator core by yourself or if you would want to take it in,  If it is possible where is it located.

ANSWER: The evaporator core is under the dash inside the HVAC air distribution box. If the system is already empty then doing it yourself is reasonable depending of course on the year/make/model as to how much disassembly is required. If it is a reasonable sealed system already then depending upon the refrigerant you might not want to do this without recapturing the refrigerant and also sealing some of the hoses so as to make re-filling of the system less challenging. So I need to know more about the vehicle.

QUESTION: The vehicle is a 2006 Chrysler town and country its in good condition and runs very well.  I believe the system is empty, but just to make sure how would you do that as well.

Answer
Hi Josh,
Unfortunately to replace the evaporator you have to remove the entire unit that is behind the dash and to do that you have to remove the instrument panel which has about 3 dozen steps involved. This is a major undertaking. I have the '05 manual on a CD but I am uncertain if I can print pages from it. But you would need to have such a manual to do this job with any sort of sanity. Are you certain that the evaporator is bad and needs replacement? It would be a very expensive job to pay someone to do, but you really need the instructions to do it yourself.
