Nissan Repair: 95 nissan pickup, vehicle speed sensor, trip odometer button

my speedometer will drop to zero at any speed and have to push the trip odometer button it just does it when it wants to its done it for years off and on some days more than others for about 5 years just wondering..it does not affect anything we have onehundred thousand on both they run like a kitten...thanks alot just wondering....roland

The harness connector could be dirty and to do that you would take the cluster out and get a number 2 pencil eraser and clean the connections with the eraser.  Blow off the eraser dust and reinstall.  If that does not do the trick then check the speedometer connection internally.  Take the cluster a part and remove the speedometer and with a power supply and connect to the terminals and run the speedometer manually.  This will let you know if the speedometer is defective or you need to replace the vehicle speed sensor.
