Chrysler Repair: 04 300m wont start, 4 digit numbers, engine controller

Question
After four attempted starts my Chrysler shuts down and won't start for hours. What is causing this problem?

Answer
Hi Taquisha,
The quickest way to find out what is wrong is to seek the diaganostic trouble codes that are stored in the engine control computer memory. I believe that you can use the ignition key to do this: turn the switch "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that key switching in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window of the instrument cluster to see if the mileage reading changes to show any 4-digit numbers preceded by a P. Write those down and get back to me with a follow-up question and we'll go from there to figure this out. There are about a hundred possible reasons for a 'no start' but fortunately the engine controller can often notice what it is and store a fault code.
