Chrysler Repair: 2004 Chrysler Sebring, 2004 chrysler sebring, duty mechanic

Question
QUESTION: Dear Kevin,

I want to know when the "timing chain" on this car needs to be changed. My friend recently purchase this car and the dealership said it doesn't need to be changed until every 2/300,000 miles. We thought it was every 1/100,000 miles like the timing belt.

Your clarification would really help in this matter since you seem to be the most qualified mechanic that I've search for during the last few hours.

Sincerely,

Monica

PS, Engine: 2.4 Liter

ANSWER: a chain does not get changed  a belt gets changed every100k   if u asked the dealer about a CHAIN the info they gave u is correct  the 2.4 has a belt  and it is changed every 100k.

QUESTION: NOT A QUESTION, COMMENT ONLY:

Thank you for your expedient reply. I cannot believe they would outright communicate a false statement knowingly. And if the person she spoke to unknowingly gave the wrong answer, confirming it with a on duty mechanic should have been the best course of action. Now that we know, we will return the car so that the "timing belt" gets replaced. The car was just delivered to her home at 3:30PM EST today.

Again, thank you.

Monica

Answer
U did not ask the right question to who ever u asked.  Did u ask them if the chain has to be changed and they told u 300k  "that is correct info"  If u did not tell them that U have a 2.4 with a belt they could not have given the info u were looking for.
