Answer
PS: I just saw this manual for your car on eBay which you may want to buy. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-CHRYSLER-FIFTH-AVENUE-FACTORY-SERVICE-MANUAL...

Auction ends this evening.

Hi Stewart,
This hot start problem could be due to several possibilities. First off is the engine carbureted or fuel injected? If the former, I would check to sure the choke isn't sticking partially closed which would produce too rich a mixture for a hot start. Another possibility is vapor lock in a fuel line that starves the carburetor until it clears.
On the fuel injected alternative, you have the temperature sensors that electronically communicate their parameters to the control modules, both spark and fuel. So I would want to measure the resistance across the terminals of the coolant temp sensor and air intake sensor to see if it is changing its resistance values (downward) as the engine warms up. You are probably aware that these were the early years of fuel injection and so the self-diagnostic capabilities were minimal. My '83 RWD manual doesn't offer any possibilities for the existence of self-diagnosis in the system.
Another part to check out would be the exhaust gas recirculation (egr) valve. That could be sticking slightly ajar when it is hot and that would lean out the mixture too much to sustain an idle. Try spraying some WD-40 on the valve stem where it enters the valve body and then move the stem back and forth to loosen up the 'action'.
What do you know about the electrical and fuel systems of your '84?
It appears that different models with the 5.2 may have been delivered with different parts for these systems but the manual doesn't specify the set up for an '83 with te 5.2L engine so I would need to know from you just what are the specifics.
